U-Shape Enclosure On Ledge

U-Shape Enclosure On Ledge

On a ledge in Milford, MA.  This one is modern.  Nice workmanship if I do say so myself!

Unusually-Shaped Stone In the Hills Of Milford, MA.

Unusually-Shaped Stone In the Hills Of Milford, MA.

There is an unusually-shaped stone I noticed near the bottom of a ledge in the hills of Milford, MA.  This is in the same area where I have been noticing many Standing Stones.  This stone could almost be called a Standing Stone, but is uniquely different.  I think that this particular stone is meant to be "read" or "interpretted" much like one would interpret markings on a stone or a petroglyph.  What came to my mind when looking at this stone was two possibilities-

1) "Two Peaks."  A high canyon peak and a smaller hill/ mountain, or

2) The likeness of a creature of some kind, almost like a dinosaur.

There is a nice cairn site on the hill-side below this stone, which even has some nice enclosures in it, although quarrying has destroyed some of this site.  Above where the stone is located are several more cairns, and the view-shed with the Standing Stones that was featured a couple posts back.  Directly above this stone is a partially quarried ledge, although some original boulder replacements remain on this ledge, and there are some modern stoneworks on this ledge that were built from the rubble of the quarrying, such as a serpent row around a campfire which dually serves as benches, and some U-shaped structures.

But back to the stone that this post is about.  The "Unusually-Shaped" Stone.  This was found lying flat but I propped it up to show it off:

A stone row that the stone seems to be a part of.  Above this row lies rubble from quarrying on the ledge, as well as some old and modern stone-works.

The stone featured in this post was definitley shaped-out.  The question is, what exactly does it represent or depict.  If anyone has any ideas please let me know your opinions in the comments section.

The Stones Have Conciousness

The Stones Have Conciousness

I know that this isn't really what some people want to hear, but I could care less.  After much looking into these matters, in this case from more of a holistic perspective rather than data collecting (etc.) I can only conclude that some of the stones- such as Standing Stones, (also perched boulders and boulders that have been manipulated into place, and smaller stones such as triangular shaped stones in walls/ cairns) have a certain/ special kind of high conciousness.

I would call these stones "talking" stones or "transmission" stones.  They take on a certain energy and even conciousness, a kind of intellegence all their own.  Some researchers do use technology that has recorded off-the-charts magnetic anamolies at such stone sites before.

Take a Standing Stone for instance- suppose a tip was worked out at the top of the stone (which would usually relate to a higher principal such as tracking astronomical events on the horizon- the ancient science of astrology practised by our ancestors in every part ofthe world-), and certain areas of this Standing Stone may be smoothed out, such as the center of the stone.  Next, the Standing Stone may be perfectly erect or it may be slanted to the left or right side.  If several more of these Standing Stones are found in an area, uniquely different but worked out in the same style, such as along a range of hills as is the case with Magomiskook (Milford, MA.) than we have to conclude that we are looking at horizon/ astronomical markers, to name some of their special functions.

Of course, the interaction between the men and women who polished/ worked the stone over must have been extremely profound, as well as the succesive interactions between their descendants and these sites/ stones (which is why Ceremonial Stone Landscapes is an important issue.)  The point is, that the memory of these places is still alive.  The primordial memory never leaves us or goes away although it may be illusive.  Look at the water cycle for instance, the Earth never really loses water, it just evaporates and forms back into the clouds, eventually to populate the Earth once more, although this process may take a while.  The same is true with anything involving life and energy.

Let me give you another example- when my father passed away in an accident several years ago- he was in the Shenendoa Mountains of Virginia and I was in bed in Massachusetts, about 5:45 am or so.  Yet when the accident occured that resulted in my father's passing, I felt a surge of energy and my father's presence very strongly, he even spoke to me in a very spiritual way, which resulted in me jolting awake.  Without words or any material stimulous, I knew what had happened, because my father had let me know, his spirit had come to me.  When the phone rang almost 2 hours later (on an early Sunday morning) I already knew what the call would be about because of the earlier "out of body" (if you could call it that) experience (calling it a premonition wouldn't be correct either- this is much more than a premonition).  Furthermore, my father has visited me several times over the years in my dreams- this is not just something that I am dreaming up, this is my actual father, his spirit, his divine conciousness actually visiting me while I am in a dream-state (I remember alot of my dreams and am a lucid dreamer, as well as having occasional out of body experiences.)

But back to the stones.  Some of these stones were specially shaped out, long ago in pre-history, and they played a role as intermediaries between people and their experience in the greater universe.  The stones still carry this memory.  I would even go so far as to say that if some of these stones were used to track solar events, as astronomical calanders, as celestial markers, etc. than these stones still carry a very high level conciousness- their purpose is known.  The implications of this is very important.  Some modern people may not accept this, but that's okay.  It is even possible that people who interact with such sites can transmutate their mind/ body (look and feel younger, have a clearer mind, etc.)  This is another reason why these sites need to be preserved- most obviously for their cultural value, but what exactly are the implications of cultural value?  If we lose this, than we lose a part of ourselves.

The Grand View Place- Standing Stones & Boulder Row Alignments At the Highest Point In Milford, MA.

The Grand View Place- Standing Stones & Boulder Row Alignments At the Highest Point In Milford, MA.

If you follow this blog you might recall posts from last winter about stoneworks among the high rolling hills of Milford, MA.  in and around the powerlines, documenting some collapsed standing stones, perched boulder arrangements and the like.  I also got into the Native place name for this area (specifically pertaining to the rolling hills and granite ledges in Milford) which is Magomiskook (alt. Megumsquag, etc.)  This is translated as "The Grand View Place" or "the Grand View/ Great Rock Place", it has even been translated as "Great Place of the Standing Stones"- the general gist of these translations is about the same.

I was able to locate one of my favorite spots around the Magomiskook area this summer- a ledge that now overlooks the I-495 corridor.  This is one of the highest ledges in the area, and features a stone row of boulders and some standing stones, and this is hands down the most awesome, highest panoramic view of the area I have seen so far- to the left one can see Bellingham and perhaps beyond- straight ahead you can see the buildings, steeples and cathedrals of the churches in downtown Milford. What is funny is that the steeple of a church is meant to penetrate skywards; signifying some religious act.  Well, up on these natural high ledges is the Native American church, looking down upon the rest of the world.  No need to be over-industrious and build when nature has already provided for us a means to an end, and has already done a better job of it than what people want to build up anyway.  Also, one can also see into the hills of the surrounding towns of Mendon and Upton, and perhaps beyond.  With so much modern development it is a good thing that such places still do exist.

So here we go.  First is a view of the Standing Stones.  It was sunny out so the rocks from certain angles have a black hue to them, because the light was being reflected off of the stones.

Standing Stones 1 & 2:

Nice "obelisk" shape from this angle of Standing Stone 2- in the background paralell is Standing Stone 1 obscured by brush:

Showing off some of the view- one can see better w/ the naked eye than with the camera I was using (buildings, hill outlines, etc.)

Being on a high ledge, makes me think of the below picture from the book "The Soul of the Indian" by Charles A. Eastman who was Sioux, to be educated by the white man later in life.  In fact, his grandson (now an elderly man himself- maybe 70's) was just in the Milford area a few years back to run the Boston Marathon (which is awesome because I am a former Boston Marathon runner myself, having ran as a "bandit runner" and finished just under 4 hours in 2009.)  A quote from the book "The Soul of the Indian":

"Being a natural man, the Indian was intensely poetical.  He would deem it sacrilege to build a house for Him who may be met face to face in the mysterious, shadowy aisles of the primeval forest, or on the sunlit bosom of virgin prairies, upon dizzy spirals and pinnacles of naked rock, and yonder in the jeweled vault of the night sky!  He who enrobes Himself in filmy veils of cloud, there on the rim of the visible world where our Great-Grandfather Sun kindles his evening camp-fire, He who rides upon the rigorous wind of the north, or breathes forth His spirit upon aromatic southern airs, whose war-canoe is launched upon majestic rivers and inland seas- He needs no cathedral!"

In the next paragraph it is said-
"The solitary communion with the Unseen which was the highest expression of our religious life.... may better be interpreted as 'conciousness of the divine'."

Hillside "Altar" Cairns in Milford, MA.

Hillside "Altar" Cairns in Milford, MA.

Here is a good site, towards the edge of the woods in Milford, MA. near the Holliston town line.  Beyond this site are powerlines as well as more recent construction and quarrying.  I noticed that the cairns at this site are basically on a sloping hill-side, and alot of the cairns are capped with a stone slab, giving the cairns an "altar" -like appearance.  Also there are dry stream beds at the foot of the slopes, and even some smaller dried brooks running down some of the slopes.  Therefore, there would have been gentle, flowing water running down this hillside when these cairns were likely built, in pre-colonial times.  So the theme of flowing water was a strong element at this site, as well as the Earth and Sky (astronomy.)  If one can imagine themselves back in time, this place would have been a paradise.  As it is now, the gentle flowing water has stopped and the woods have grown up un-managed.  The pictures are as follows:

Cairn capped w/ a stone slab, a nice feature at this site:

Zooming back to show off some of the hill slope.  Also some nice trees on either side of the structure have grown up:

Lower to the ground cairn/ enclosure:

Another cairn topped with a slab, which is why I think of these as "altar" cairns:

Another view:

Rock piles on the slope:

Another cairn with a stone slab, but lower to the ground:

This cairn is more stacked up:

Smaller rock pile at the foot of a larger rock pile:

On this slope, to the right of the two rocks on the left is a dried up waterfall running down the hillside (not sure how clear pic is- may have to peel eyes).  I don't think water really flows here anymore (due to dams, water towers, etc.) even in heavy rainfall in spring.  At the foot of this slope is a dried up stream bed that this water would have flowed into:

A propped boulder that was placed at the edge of a small ledge (this is above the ancient waterfall trickle and the stream):

Close-up of one of the small stones that the propped boulder was placed on top of, which heaved it at least partially off the ground:

A smaller propped boulder placement:

A triangular granite stone placement on a small ledge.  I believe these triangular stones in this style I have seen at many sites such as this had a significance/symbolism:

More cairns on the hillside:
